SALARY: Between 15428 – 22078 won per hour (total hourly compensation when quarterly bonuses are included)
DUTY LOCATION: 51st Civil Engineer Squadron, Operations Water & Fuels Systems Maintenance, Osan AB
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All current USFK employees (Priority Group 5). All registrants on the area reemployment priority list (ARPL) (Priority Group 6). Outside Korean National Applicant (Priority Group 8 & 9).
NOTE: Newly hired NAF employees are required to serve no less than one year in the position to which they are initially hired before they can voluntarily accept any other position unless approved by management. Relocation allowances are not authorized for USFK employees selected from outside the commuting area.
MAJOR DUTIES: Performs tasks in connection with water treatment, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of all water distribution systems. Operates, regulates and maintains electric and/or gas driven pumps, water filters chemical mixer units, gas chlorinators, rapid sand filters, clarifier devices, auxiliary equipment, and related motors, controls, gages, flow meters, valves, control panels, automated control system (SCADA) monitoring and trouble shooting, swimming pool filtering systems, testing and chemical application of pool water. Perform recurring work programs by using maintenance action sheets. Starts, stops and controls pumps; opens and closes valves to control rates of flow; introduces chemical solutions, such as aluminum sulfate, soda ash, and lime through feeder units in relation to rate of water flow. Conducts chemical control tests of chlorine residual; conducts jar tests to determine coagulant requirements and adjusts proportioning devises accordingly; conducts Ph measurement; tests for turbidity and alkalinity. Inspects and checks plant equipment tanks, water wells, pumping station, and lift stations and meters. Must be able to read as built and drawings to plan water shut off for water breaks. Performs a full range of plumbing tasks including estimating material requirements (i.e., pipe, fittings, fixtures in the sizes, types of lengths needed): locating and marking water or sewage lines for AF Form 103 requests; placing and connection sewage and water piping; threading and cutting pipe; repair fixtures such as hydrants, water mains, water mains, water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, hot water heaters; clearing difficult stoppage in drains and manholes; assembling of pipe sections and fittings hanging or laying of assemblies into position; testing joints for leaks; laying and joining concrete, PVC or iron pipe in ditches; installing and repairing valves; and dissembling and repairing damaged sections or fabricating replacements. Must be able to plan and execute pipe/valve replacement or repair and accomplish build or material. Use tools and equipment common to the trade. Performs other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITION: Inside and outside work; exposure to continue noise; and danger of poisonous chlorine in the event of a broken line, falls from tower or elevated walls and high voltage and moving machinery. Also exposed to mud and water; subject to infection from unsanitary worksites and injury from use of power and hand tolls and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead. Required to work on day, swing or midnight shift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: One year of general experience plus one year of specialized experience.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Actual work experience as a trainee, helper, or other work related to the trade or craft for which being considered.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience at the "Junior", or higher level, in the work related to trade or craft for which being considered.
SUBSTITUTION:
1. The following may be substituted for the 1 year of general experience required at any level:
a. Graduation from high school in a field related to the job for which being considered.
b. Successful completion of a formal training course in a recognized trade school, of at least 90 days duration, in the trade or craft of the job for which being considered.
c. Possession of a valid license or certificate of competency issued by the ROKG attesting to proficiency as craftsman (기능사) in the trade or craft of the job for which being considered.
2. The following may be substituted for the 1 year of general and 1 year of specialized experience required at any level:
a. Graduation from technical junior college in a field related to the job for which being considered.
b. Possession of license or certificate of competency issued by the ROKG attesting to proficiency as an industrial engineer
(산업기사) in the trade or craft of the job for which being considered.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCY: The American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT) score of 40 or above and successfully passing the English Comprehension Interview (ECI) is required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY (KSA’s): To be rated best qualified applicants must have demonstrated possession of the following KSA’s essential to the performance of the duties of the positions:
a. Knowledge of utility system operates and repairs.
b. Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc (includes blueprint reading)
c. Ability to install, modifies, and repairs plumbing systems and equipment.
d. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment (operate and make adjustments to equipment to include pumps, valves, electronic telemeter system, chlorinators, fluoridating, filters and their controls)
e. Possession of a driver’s license is desirable.
f. USFK water treatment and waste water treatment plant certification is desirable.
CONTINGENCY-ESSENTIAL(C-E) POSITION: This position has been designated as Contingency-Essential (C-E).
A C-E employee will participate in base exercises equipped with the chemical warfare defense equipment. Selected candidate is required to sign an agreement, Korean Employee Contingency-Essential Position Agreement (USFK Form 200EK) and must be completed physical requirements test before effective date of appointment.
