CIVILIAN PERSONNEL FLIGHT OSAN AIR BASE

POSITION TITLE & GRADE: Teacher (Korean Culture and History), KGS-1710-05/07/09
(Part-Time: 20 hours per week)
SALARY: KGS-05: Between 20157 – 28927 won per hour
KGS-07: Between 25107 – 36244 won per hour
KGS-09: Between 29836 – 43235 won per hour
(Total hourly compensation when bonuses are included)
DUTY LOCATION: Department of Defense Education Activity, Osan American Elementary School, Osan AB.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All current employees assigned with United States Air Forces, Korea (USAFK)
(Priority Group 5)
NOTE: 1. Target grade of this position is KGS-09. If this position is filled at lower grade than target grade, the incumbent may be promoted to the target grade non-competitively upon satisfactory completion of the job requirements, recommendation by the supervisor, and subject to meeting time-in-grade and qualification.
2. USFK NAF employees newly hired on or after 1 Jul 2004 will be required to serve no less than one year in the position to which they are initially hired before they can voluntarily accept any other position. However, they may be allowed to move to other NAF positions within their employing command/activity.
3. Relocation allowance is not authorized for USFK employees selected from outside the commuting area.
MAJOR DUTIES: Conduct classroom teaching subject field or Korean Culture such topics as cultural features, language, history, arts and crafts, industrial and agricultural aspects, geography and religion, etc. Develops and prepares course outlines and teaching materials daily or weekly lesson plans, subject to general or spot review by the supervisor. Frequently supplements and standardized materials and instructional aids with materials of his/her own choosing, as necessary, to give special coverage to subjects of local interest and to incorporate recent developments in the subject field. Independently selects and uses the teaching methods, techniques and supplemental materials, which will be most effective for teaching the assigned subjects to his/her students. Analyzes individual attitude or performance to determine what makes learning difficult and what corrective measures are necessary to correct or prove difficulties in the teaching-learning situations. Evaluates student’s progress through the administering of tests, homework, assignment of reports, etc. Evaluates and prepares quarterly student progress reports to parents including student problems. Keeps abreast of the literature affecting his/her particular teaching area and keep alert to the potential of new training materials and aids for use in teaching. Studies various Korean culture sources to effectively incorporate or use in teaching. Attends faculty meeting and conferences for information and discussion regarding new policies, programs, and problems of common concern. Is expected to continue to further his/her professional growth and development through participation in in-service workshops, seminars, and other training courses. Recommends and/or determines proper places for school field trips as out-school teaching and on-site observation in the host nation culture program. Selects significant cultural and historical places for his/her preview and recommends those places to supervisor. Prepares field trip guides and schedule with detailed itinerary, showing the specific features of places to be visited and arranges trip schedule and transportation. Accompanies the classes on field trips as chaperon to take care of students, interpret, and/or answer questions for participants. After trips, motivate the students to respond or reports to class their impression, feelings, comments, and reactions. Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: Maintains close coordination with the Korean community and actively works with Korean schools and visitors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS for KGS-05: Applicants must have completed a full 4-year course of study in a ROKG authorized or recognized college or university in a field related to the job for which being considered and must possess a current teacher’s license issued by ROKG.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above,
EXPERIENCE:
KGS-07: One (1) year of professional experience in a position at the KGS-05 grade level or equivalent, related to the position.
KGS-09: One (1) year of professional experience in a position at the KGS-07 grade level or equivalent, related to the position.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Experience which required application of the professional theories, scientific principles, and practices in the established profession of the position to be filled. Professional positions require professional, rather than technical knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) such as can be gained through intensive college education and training.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
1. One full academic year of graduate education in a field related to the position being filled may be substituted for one year of specialized experience required at grade KGS-07 level.
2. Master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position is qualifying for KGS-09 level.
A TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION IF USING EDUCATION AS SUBSTITUTION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE. COURSES MUST BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE WORK OF THE POSITION.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCY:
1. The American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT) score of 80 or above and successfully passing the English Comprehension Interview (ECI) is required.
2. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 and higher or the Test of English for International communication (TOEIC) score of 750 and higher may be substituted for ALCPT requirement. Applicant must submit the TOEFL/TOEIC official copies of test score. TOEFL and TOEIC scores are valid for two years from the exam date.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY (KSA’s): To be rated best qualified applicants must have demonstrated possession of the following KSA’s essential to the performance of the duties of the positions:
a. Knowledge of range of principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach students.
b. Knowledge of Korean culture and history.
c. Ability to plan, develop and prepares course outlines and teaching lesson plans.
d. Ability to communicate fluently in the English language.
